the point is this system sounds like it will flood the market with plat items the mysteryboxes are already flooding the market with. On top of that the ones that arn't flooded will sell for cheaper than the boxes themselves except the rare stuff.

Put the misterybox at 1 plat price.

At that price, you should be always winning!

I thought mysboxes cost in-game gold so low-end plat items were easier to obtain without having to pay for platinum. Making them cost 1 plat makes that whole idea irrelevant. Also, I think this is a great idea, Robby!

Yeah you do have a point Sharky, it's someone what satisfying that you can grind your way to earn these play items, if you obtain a rare item it makes the mysterybox a good feature. Which should always be obtained with gold. But since this P2P system, I think that the mysteryboxes should go down in price.

To add to this, I think if you do introduce the Platreon system, I feel that you should reduce the price of buying plat in game. Or you increase the amount of plat you can buy for the amount of money.

So, I am reading the first post right, aren't I? A cap of 10 plat per DAY?

Because even with Grim's conservative figure of lowering the cap to 8, that's up to 240p per month. For $5.

The only way I could see this working is as a complete reboot of the plat system. And honestly, that might actually help the game. A lot of the more fun items are locked behind plat as it is, and flooding the world with them could make the game more interesting.

That said, as much as I'd like 240p a month for $5, if you don't want to destroy the current economy I'd go with up to 10 plat every week.

Some good points in this thread.

Based on the comments here, the value of plat involved, the usual cost of MMO subscriptions, and typical plat buying habits, I am leaning toward simplifying the system and only have a single tier at $9.99/mo that includes both plat & 9bit access.  Hopefully that doesn't cut anyone out, but generally when people purchase, they purchase at least $10.  This is with the idea that if you're subscribing, ideally you shouldn't ever need to buy plat packs at all unless you're trying to do fancy premium hats or huge town expansions.

Also, I'm thinking of reducing the cap to 8p per day max, as that is enough for most items.  Because we don't want to flood the world with townstones, publicpads, or rewardblocks, but still make them available, those items could be 10p items (two already are).  Roughly once per week (whether on timer or random chance), plat could get a +2 boost to reach 10p and so allow access to those three items.  The only other building item more expensive than that is the 2k region expand, which can be gotten via 250+ expands (I might tune the 250+ block up to somewhere between 6~8p as region expands do cause lag, and so should be limited to the most active players).

Finally, I'm debating whether to implement this via Patreon, Steam subs, or Stripe -- so if any potential backer has preferences, please let me know.

I would like to also suggest a little extra kick to subscriptions.

Those who have one get a shiny golden glow ( aura ) around them that boosts SOME things. ( nothing stat based ) but things like 10% more gold from mobs, and increased gold farming cap, maybe shortened time between cycles. maybe add a few subscription cloths like a less than fancy suit and hat.

other suggestions are welcome.

Yes, a gold boost seems like a good extra to add

Patreon is great for things like this one, I think you should use it. Also, you could add more rewards than just that, like... 20$/mo = Shoutout, or something like that.

no, i did not die.

I think this is a GREAT idea! Making this would beef up the community, and maybe even make the game popular. This would be a great fundraiser for this game, but i don't think there should be that many benefits, and it should be cheaper too. This could raise funds for the game for the people that don't have enough money to buy the platinum packs, but the price of the minor subscription is the same as the first Platinum Pack, suggesting that you should make the prices cheaper. The Platinum Packs should also give more Platinum, assuming that if they didn't, the Platreon system would be TOTES worth it. What i am saying here is that you should defiantly lower the platinum from Platreon Stones. They should also be a non-tradeable item, but then again; if you made them tradeable, it would spice up the game. But it would be weird, because its kinda trading Raw Plat, which is a VERY weird system. I think the prices should be this: 3 Dollars for a one week subscription, which gives a maximum of 25 Platinum at a time; then there is the one month subscription, which should cost at least cost 10 dollars, giving a maximum of 50 Platinum at a time, having a Premium Platreon stone which gives five plat every time. It will cost a bunch, assuming it is more then at least three weeks, and has more benefits. The 9bitmmo access should be limited, but for more time then the subscription lasts. This will balance it, making it so people who just want 9bit just buy that, won't get what they REALLY want. Platreon stones should be balanced enough to make it so its at least better then a Platinum Pack. Thanks for reading!

edit: i forgot to mention, also make a system where platreon stones can be saved and stacked every day

I'm going to do some math. If an average of 50 users are subscribed, then you would get... 500$ per month. Holy cow, that's a lot! Now, start doing this already, please.

(Hooray for me, I can multiply by ten!)

It's been a long freakin' time since I've been here.

My personal opinions on the matter:

The Platreon system could work, but it needs fine-tuning. As it stands, you have only made plat and 3D Glasses/access to 9BitMMO available. And both ways, this form of obtaining them is much better than others, to the point where it's better altogether than direct platinum purchases and a direct 9Bit purchase.

It would probably take some coding to make 9Bit status disappear on cancelling Platreon subscription. HOWEVER, it's much better than people buying Platreon for 1 month and cancelling, and keeping the 9Bit access for much cheaper. However, this way, people could end up paying MORE for 9BitMMO than they should, and could end up cancelling their subscription after sinking in a lot of money. And losing their 9Bit access when they paid more overall than just permanent access. I think the best option is to just cut 9BitMMO from the Platreon system entirely.

As others have said, if you spend all your plat every day, you could get obscenely high amounts of platinum overall, raising over 100 for much cheaper than direct plat packs. You'd have to much further increase the rewards in direct platinum purchases to make them worth it compared to Platreon. This one is much easier to fix, just increase the platinum gained from directly buying it, or decrease that of the Platreon system further. If one is active every day, and spends all their Platinum every day, 30 days of being at the 8 plat cap would still equal 240 platinum overall.

Thanks for the bug report.  Going to tune a few things erijon suggested last night before officially announcing it on the blog later today
