If it was possible I would really like to see one per week, to be able to see the whole evolution of the landscape!

Leveling up, I will have to think carefully about. I don't want to have a situation where new players can't play with old players

I'm not suggesting you basically borrow Graal Online's system, just wanted to give you an idea of how you could set it up.
Also, is it just me, or is anyone else reminded of the old old PC game "Chip's Challenge?"
I wouldn't mind suggesting all sorts of things and possibly trying to do some promo work for you, I've got a lot of free time

Also, as per the mention of healing, how about Classes? Like: Cleric, Ranger, Bard, Barbarian, Rogue, etc.
I'd be willing to type up an outline and work out possible skills if you're interested

If levels were implemented, my suggestion would be that you could choose one skill every once in a while (like every ten level or so, or when you achieve a very difficult quest). I really like the way the skills work in Binding of Isaac, where the skills improve your character and make it unique for each playthrough. Some other games, like Idatank for iOS, lets you choose one of three random skills each time you level up. In order for the skills to work like this you need a pool of skills big enough, but it's easy to add more skills as you go (they just need to be balanced properly) and it really make all the characters in the game unique.
If I would just try and think up some skills right away..
Building - Build at more than one space at a time
lvl 1 - build on 1 square (Granted at tutorial )
lvl 2 - build on 2*2 squares at once
lvl 3 - build on 3*3 squares at once
lvl 4 - build on 4*4 squares at once
Grassmaking - Turn normal grass into lightgreen grass
lvl 1 - combine 20 normal grass into one permanent grass
lvl 2 - combine 10 normal grass into one permanent grass
lvl 3 - combine 5 normal grass into one permanent grass
lvl 4 - make one normal grass into one permanent grass
Rot - Block will be destroyed after 24h unless the owner clicks it
lvl 1 - spend 2000 gold on destroying one block another player has placed
lvl 2 - spend 1500 gold on destroying one block another player has placed
lvl 3 - spend 1000 gold on destroying one block another player has placed
lvl 4 - spend 500 gold on destroying one block another player has placed
Moving - Ability to move another players block to another (free) space within range
lvl 1 - move one block one step for 1000 gold
lvl 2 - move one block up to two steps for 1000 gold
lvl 3 - move one block up to three steps for 1000 gold
lvl 4 - move one block up to four steps for 1000 gold
A few other skills I haven't outlined in detail.
Coloring - Ability to color blocks (cost decrease per lvl)
Hardneck - Extra HP (+2(?) per lvl)
Extend arms - Sword reaches further (a few pixels per lvl)
Speed - Run speed slightly increased
Invisibility - Turn invisible for other players (cost gold/seconds (lvl 1: 20 gold/second; lvl 4: 1 gold/sec)
Immateriality - Ability to walk through walls
There you go! Please note that these are all just suggestions from the top of my head, and I would much rather see new skills that bring more gameplay elements into the world. Maybe crafting?

EDIT: A chest or a bank where you can store your items would be great.

Plus please do not add more features to the game. Maybe add transportation/ more objects.
