Why would it?

 

But if the game did need to be reset, in the new world it could count up how much gold/plat our placed items and inventory items are worth and give it to us.

The game is good as it is. i'm hoping that IF crafting is added that it is not similar to other games in which crafting is a big part of it e.g minecraft. another reason i hope it isn't like minecraft is cuz i really can't be bothered dragging the materials and forming a shape :P

Also, new block should be added called the "Sexy Market Block", which will allow you to put stuff on teh market.

 

 

I could go for something like Ruinscape's Grand Exchange.

I don't see why "crafting" should be implemented they way it has in other games. Sometimes it is a fun way to enhance your game, sometimes it is pointless, and sometimes it is a way to keep players busy.

 

I have faith that if a crafting system were added to 8bitMMO, it would be something fun and would enhance the game rather than detract from it. I play this game because I have a windows tablet and it won't play anything requiring more processor. :P I know other people have their own reasons but I am happy to have a game that lets me kill time and be creative and social and will run on my not-so-top-of-the-line system.

 

That being said...I think crafting should be reserved for lvl 6+ players but should not involve buying Plat...at least not at the introductory levels.

crafting is for survival games, i never seen 8bit as a survival game. i always thought of it as a social/building game the only way that survival would fit in is if there where more blocks, more animals, and if it becomes a more serious game (which i hope doesnt happen)

Maybe have town shps AND a normal shop.. Only the town shops should sell cheaper. And some really off-the-main-road town should sell plat items chea.... SIMNEEDSMONEYROTINHELLSNEAKY

FYI, I'm not definitely adding crafting, it's just something I'm thinking about.  If it does get added, it won't be exactly like the minecraft model. 

 

Here's one possible system:

  • Slay mobs and get some basic resources, where you get different resources per enemy type (stone, ore, gold, etc)
  • Now with those basic resources you can build a quarry block
  • Hit E on the quarry block and you get a mini-shop with ~10 various items you can attempt to craft.  Most of these cost some combination of resources to build (ie: building red brick requires x gold and y stone.).  Interface will be similar to existing shop, just choose what you want.
  • When you attempt to make the item:  99% of the time, you get the item you were thinking of, but let's say 1% of the time you get a rare variant of it instead (or possibly something completely different, but more valuable.  ie, if you're making a normal door, maybe you have a very rare chance of getting an owner door out of it.  maybe.  Perhaps this chance is greatly increased by adding an optional plat resource?). 
  • One of the craftable blocks at the quarry will be an additional mini-shop block, and after placing it will allow you to access additional crafting options.  Ie, in the quarry you could craft a swordblock, then you place and use it, and you can then craft swords at it.

Alternatively, I'm also thinking of a block fusing system:

  • Slay mobs and get some basic resources, where you get different resources per enemy type (stone, ore, gold, etc)
  • Now let's say you have two cement blocks, you can combine them and probably get a big cement block.  But there's also a rare chance you'll get a black tile block.  Or something totally different.  You never know exactly what you'll get, only that it'll be at least as valuable as the most common combination of those two items.
  • Combine wood and gold, and you'll most likely get a door.  But maybe there's a rare chance of getting an owner door.  Perhaps this chance is greatly increased by adding a plat resource to the mix?

Anyway, I like the idea of adding a bit of randomness to make things more exciting :)

Simmy why can't we slay mobs, get gold, buy basic resources and then make stuff. It seems like gold is "going" away.

Gosh dangit Sim, why do you have to have a genuinely good argument about crafting? I've never liked games with crafting (with the exception of Minecraft, which I play heavily modded). But the ideas you're pitching around, I wouldn't mind it as much. It makes me wonder if this crafting system could have an infintismally small chance of producing the covetted wild grass.
