There have been rumors going around that sim has been planning on using skill points obtained through quests to add a crafting system. I am making this topic to tell you why this is a HORRIBLE idea. I like this game because of it's uniqueness. Adding a crafting system is this games first step into becoming a generic minecraft clone. I have heard people argue that nobody complains about ovens. Well, ovens only provide a small taste of a crafting system which I believe is more than enough. Skill points should be used to provide a more original feature, to add to this games creativity. I personally think skill points should be used to add depth to the current pvp system or more customization options.

TL;DR Adding a crafting system is a horrible unoriginal idea. Add depth to the pvp or more customization instead.

Bulocks! Didn't you know? Minecraft is a clone of 8BitMMO. Seeing as 8BitMMO has been around much longer than Minecraft ever has.

Yea, but that is not how most people view it. Minecraft is more popular and well known , so people will compare 8bitmmo to minecraft if he adds a crafting system, not the other way around. Many people will be uninterested in another game that is similar to minecraft.

bullpucky! 8bitmmo was created before minecraft. so technically minecraft could have copied 8bitmmo for all we know.

You just said the same thing link did ._.

Also Minecraft implemented a crafting system first so 8bitmmo would be copying that.

crafting is not just minecraft. crafting is the act of creating something using a recipe. saying that means all cookery games are copies of minecraft -_-

personally i don't think a crafting system would benefit 8bitmmo. it perhaps would make things a 8it (see wat i did there :P) more interesting but thats all

You don't think Robby wants his game to be popular and well-known? To achieve such a feat, you must appeal to the desires of the majority. Crafting isn't something exclusive to Minecraft by the way. You can craft stuff on just about every genre of game in one form or another. The main reason this is successful is because crafting takes time. Time enough to get someone to want to keep playing, which is the main issue about 8BitMMO in the first place (players only playing about a week then leaving for good because they've ran of out of things to do). Compare crafting to the 'mindless grind' of RPGs in-between the main story, leaderboard/high scores tables on multiplayer games, or the multiple endings of some single-player games. It's a way to keep the person playing for a longer period of time, setting goals, and trying new things. This usually makes them stick around a bit longer. You also mentioned 'so people will compare 8bitmmo to minecraft if he adds a crafting system', but don't they do that daily already?

If we put our fingers in our ears and shout loud enough, Minecraft stops existing.

And who says the crafting is Minecraft like? For all we know it could be like how Minecraft handled the enchantment table or maybe a bit like Unturned's skill points combined with MC.

In a way I kind of hate the crafting idea. I don't want to wait for sand to turn into glass, or have to even do that when I can just get glass.

But what if it was improved?

I think the shop should be removed and maybe we could get resource gathering and player shops, instead of a non-existent place with infinite items.

There was an idea of multiple shops, like a shop in one town selling say glass and sand, then one in another town selling maybe chicken and tables and chairs etc. (Not sure who made this) This idea would be good since it would encourage exploration through towns, and encourage "trading towns" ideas, and if they made it so citizens or players could "donate blocks" or re-stock the shop so they wouldn't be infinite in stocks.

There are other more creative ways to make this game more fun and interesting to make players stay. I was attracted to this game because of it's uniqueness. If he adds crafting like every other game I might as well just go and play one of those.

Uniqueness is great and all, but if all of those unique features aren't enough to maintain a playerbase then something needs to be added. It doesn't need to be crafting but something else needs to be implemented to drive players on. Things like achievements are a good example of this. Though I still say they should at least give you an item for completion and there should be a wider variety. But I digress.

Why does crafting not make it unique?

Let's call it "makering" instead.

Well, based on seeing sim talk on irc, it seems pretty apparent that this is going to be added :( I can only hope that it's as creative as crafting can get.

We should get a shop overhaul to go with it

I'd like the idea of no shop and limited shizl. Well, a small shop.

The shop should sell clothing, and platinum packs+stuff. The clothing should have a limited amount of stock, and should become something that goes into your inventory.

Also, new block should be added called the "Sexy Market Block", which will allow you to put stuff on teh market.

Special wasteland worlds should be generated with custom terrain shiz too, if the limited shiz idea would get implemented.

But then the game would have to get reset :c
