we all know the wilderness has many ghost towns. we all know they take up space. but what can we do about it? there isnt exactly a fair way to get rid of them, due to the fact players may return. My idea is that when a player has not logged in for 6months, their towns will go on auction. The auction lasts 3days. players that login will see it and can bid on it. If the town owner logs in he can do /auctioncancel and cancel the auction. the towns will be sold one at a time. When the town is sold, the gold goes to the town owner, so theoretically the gold goes to a dead player. However this is when the 2nd part comes in. If the player returns they will be notified at login saying: your town (soldtownname) has been sold for (amount) gold. You can buy it back with /buy (new/oldtownname) If the new mayor changes the towns name the new towns name is displayed ONLY for the buy part. If you buy it, you must pay back how much gold it was bought for and the town is yours again! This could make some problems but probably better then having unused towns sitting around.
idea: ghost town auction

This is gonna be weird.... what if a Player A never knew what happened and started a tantrum..... and the notice isn't gonna help because the Revived Player doesn't know thats new.

also even if this did happen, what if you bought a town in an auction, expanded it a bunch of times and built something cool then the original owner just buys it back for cheap?

im against this, and im 99% sure sim9 is too, 8bit is 3 years old now, space isnt a problem and if dead players were going to have their stuff removed or auctioned he would have done something like that by now.
also this would most likely end up with a few of the rich players just monopolizing the system

What was it before then?Well technically it wasn't 8bitmmo til 2011
Technically no towns are empty because they all have townstones in themI think this should only apply to empty towns that only take up space entirely.

If that happened Electro would be sold and be horrible. No bad idea.

well i certainly think something should be done to ghost towns, or we should get another map where any leveled players can go to.
If that happened Electro would be sold and be horrible. No bad idea.
if that was added i doubt you would have left in the first place.

This issue has been brought up loads of times. Ghost towns should be dealt with within reason. It's stupid to have an empty town in the middle of nowhere wasting space and if you need to build around it it looks really bad. That being said only the really bad towns really empty or are just full of random junk should be dealt with and only then if the owner has not been active for at least 1 full year.
Sadly I don't know if anything will ever be done with them. The best course of action would be to remove the town entirely and revert it to a townstone that goes back to the owner along with anything that was in the town. Of course that would be a lot of work for sim to create some way to do that.
Ultimately the best a person can do is hope to track down the owner and get him to return or transfer the towns ownership.

But I had been thinking the past few days of something similar to a ghost town auction except instead of auctioning off towns belonging to people who are inactive it's auctioning off towns belonging to players who have been b& so we don't have towns that would be empty forever
