Some questions about modding the language pack

language modding german translation

Best Answer El Dromedario , 30 September 2014 - 10:31 PM

I guess you need it for the ridiculously fancy tophat.

In that case it would mean expensive, chic, extravagant.

German is not my best language but I think schick is most appropriate for it.

edit: madman, copy/pasting a dictionairy entry isn't gonna help anyone.

Hello guys,

I'm now working on a german translation of 8BitMMO, but there showed up some theoretical problems.

1)

First of all I'm modding the "location.xls" file which can be found in the ressources of the game. I'm working on an Ubuntu-Dist, so I do not have microsoft excell, I'm using google docs instead, but it only can output the newer format ".xlsx", will this also work fine?

2)

How some of you may know, German uses umlauts like ä,ü or ö. Will they be displayed fine in the game or do I have to change them?

Well that was my first bunch of problems, by working on this translation. If you can help me I would be very pleased, since this is my first try modding a game.

For those who are interested in the translation, I'm now at 28 lines of nearly 400 but I'm working on this  ;-)

Greetings,

RMStyle

You should be able to use OpenOffice/LibreOffice on Ubuntu.

Good luck!

Update

245 lines of ca. 400 are now translated.

One the one hand it means, yes, the translation makes steps fourther to get finished.
BUT on the other hand it means, I wont be able to finish it this month.

The positive thing is the remaining lines a way shorter than the done, so it (hopefully) wont take another month.

Stay tuned for new updates.

Thanks again for your support :D

Update 2#

Didnt really had time working on this the last days, so I'm at 280 lines.

But there's a word I ever slip over: fancy!  :puppydog:
I do not even know if theres a useful german word for it. Maybe this is because I cant really explain the meaning.

So can you?

Would be a great help by translate it right. ;)

I don't speak any German, but it depends on the context of the word on what it means.

If you fancy something, that means you like it or you want it.

If something is fancy, that means that it is fine and expensive.

you could've helped by giving him a summary of the meaning of fancy, not summoning a wall of text on him.

Good news, everyone, I've finished the translation.
Here goes the modded ressource pack.

Attached File  HTMudWeb.zip   687.02KB   494 downloads
For those who are using other mods there are also only the files you need for playing it in german.

Just search in the zip for both files named "localization" (one is .xls and one is .txt format)

The mod is tested and works fine.

If you have questions about how to use this .zip, just ask, I'll answer it asap ;)

Thanks for all your support :D
Hope you'll like it and if you find mistakes, feel free to post them so I can fix them ;)

PS: I know it is not perfect yet, so I'll improve it but not this month anymore
