You will need the following:

-GIMP, or a similar image editing software. Get GIMP for free here: http://download.cnet...4-10073935.html

-An image of your choice saved to your computer

-The gold required to make it

-The land required to build it

Forewarning:

Things aren't going to look exactly like the original image. Colors may have to be changed in certain areas to make up for the lack of color options.

Detail may or may not be lost depending on how large you're willing to build, what you build, and what colors you use.

Step 1 - Choose an image. I'll be using this loli girl wallpaper Zooty provided here:

oqf9fr.png

Step 2 - Edit your image. Open the image with GIMP, then in the top menu go to Filters > Blur > Pixelize.

2uy6jr5.png

Next, set your Pixel Width. The smaller your pixel width, the more detailed (and larger) the art will be. Use your judgement. In this example I set my pixel width to 3.

Now you're going to want your image to be more 'pixel-like'. So adjust your brightness-contrast. High contrast, low brightness works best.

Step 3 - Changing the colors. At the top go to Image > Mode >Indexed...

2885c8w.png

Look for 'maximum number of colors' and set it to something realistic for your image to be made in 8bitmmo. Like 8.

2ahxret.png

Now go to Windows > Dockable Dialogs >Colormap. Here you will see the current colors being used in your image. If a color isn't available in 8bitMMO, change it to something else. I had to change the brownish color into roof-orange (shown), the lavender/violet color into red (not shown), and very light violet into grey (not shown).

After you have it how you want it, go to File > Export As and save it somewhere. Now reopen it, zoom in, and get to work!

After Sage nervously waited for Zooty's opinion on the artwork, one single anwser came from Zooty's mouth: http://www.gamespray...440_preview.png (only sent link because some mod power having flabsarges seek any reason for Robby to give me warning points).

How much of the pixel art, that you can see on the megamap is original?

A lot of it is sports team logos, mario, lawyer cats etc

'Your' hermit? Like a pet or do you really own a slave?

For crying out loud, the ride never ends. This topic is in 8bitMMO. Whatever sick S&M fantasies you've cooked up about hermit and zooty need to stay either in your head or in General Chat. I've already had to hide like 10 of your posts today. This is getting ridiculous. Not to mention this post:

I have no use for this guide. I wanna build REAL pixel art.

Which is seriously rude. "I have no use for this guide." Then don't comment in the thread. See? That wasn't so hard.

"I wanna build REAL pixel art." What is REAL pixel art? Something you copy off of Google? Oh please.

Yes, I am mad.

Do you think this process would work for a panaramic landscape image? I've been considering doing a pixel art of the New York coastline, but a portrait is one thing, a large portion of a major city is another. I'd rather not start something that is going to be several thousand blocks long on the short side if I can just pixelate it a bunch to bring it down in size.

Yeah, it will work. In the step where I mention 'pixel size' and set it to 3, set yours to something a lot higher. 6-7 is still rather small, 10-11 is pushing it. It will still be a few hundred blocks wide though. You could always crop your image slightly.

Why did you bump this thread?

There's a like button btw -_-

I'm not quite sure why this thread was bumped either, however I'm kind of glad it was. I'd like to see more pixel artists spring up.

As for that logo, yeah that'd be a cool thing to add to the game. Minus the ponies :P
